Kate Humble puts Ayrshire in telly spotlight tonight with Coastal Britain episode

A stunning Ayrshire coastal route will feature in the latest episode of a TV series tonight.

Presenter Kate Humble will be showcasing the stunning walkways which wind along the South Ayrshire coast as she treks from Ayr to Dowhill.

Episode three of her epic journey around eight iconic British coastal routes will air this evening on Channel 5 and will see Kate visit some familiar landmarks along the way.

Explorer Kate filmed her scenic stomp in October last year and her whistle-stop tour will see her walk from Robert Burns' birthplace in Alloway past stunning castles at Greenan, Dunure and Culzean.

Viewers will be able to tune in to see her walk the route which will showcase breathtaking views of the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig.

Kate will walk along the iconic Tam O’Shanter route as she follows in the footsteps of the poem’s drunken protagonist when fleeing a gang of witches and warlocks, over the River Doon.

Further south, Kate will take to the water in a 12ft wooden kit-boat that is part of a new Scottish Coastal Rowing revolution.

Another icon, the Ayrshire tattie, will also be highlighted as Kate visits Dowhill to learn about the famous Ayrshire Epicure when she visits a family farm.

Leaders of the Ayrshire Coastal Path who run the beautiful walkways say they can’t wait to tune in for the show.

Jimmy Begg, path manager and author of the Ayrshire Coastal Path guide, told Ayrshire Live: “We are really looking forward to watching our path on the TV.

“It is great publicity for the Ayrshire Coastal Path and hopefully it will drum up some interest in our walking route which we are very proud of.

“She actually came down and filmed it on the weekend of October 2 last year and the weather was actually unseasonably good so she actually saw the Ayrshire coastline at its best.

“The great thing about it is she is showing not just the path but all the interesting things that you can see on it.”
