Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has revealed she often feels 'frustrated, depressed and emotional' while caring for her husband Derek Draper. Kate is one of the UK's most well-known presenters and has appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain since 2014.
In March 2020, her husband Derek, who was a political advisor, was admitted to hospital with coronavirus. Derek returned home in April 2021, after nearly a year in hospital.
He now receives around-the-clock care and Kate has often spoken openly and honestly about life since 2020 and Derek's illness. Now the presenter has spoken further about looking after Derek, which was also shown in her 2022 documentary Caring for Derek.

Posting on her Instagram Kate said: "In the documentary [Caring For Derek] you saw me frustrated, depressed, emotional, and I've been all of those and more in recent weeks and months and more."
"Because that's the thing with caring, you want it to carry on because you want the person to be surviving and still with you, so that you CAN care for them, but there isn't an end point and it doesn't get any easier."
The Caring for Derek documentary has been nominated for a National Television Award with the award ceremony taking place on Thursday, October 13. The National Television Awards will be aired on ITV from 8pm.
Kate also spoke about the documentary and the awards. She said: "Hello everyone - thank you for voting for our documentary 'Caring for Derek' - am so chuffed it's been nominated for an #NTAAWARD this Thursday"
"We made the film to highlight the challenges and rewards of being a carer, but since then things haven't got any easier either for Derek and I, nor for the millions of other carers right across the UK."
She added: "And if you feel moved to vote, then the link is in my bio - carers and anyone with a long term illness would feel so grateful not to be forgotten."
Kate and Derek have two children - William 13 and Darcey 16 - and Kate juggles raising her kids with looking after Derek and hosting Good Morning Britain. Recently Derek was back in hospital and after a scary few weeks for Kate, he later returned home where he receives 24-hour care.
