Kate Bush has issued a rare statement after finding her track Running Up That Hill at number eight in the UK chart. The song has seen a spike in popularity since the release of Stranger Things series four on Netflix.
The American sci-fi show, released on the streaming platform last week, follows a group of teenagers as they bid to stop a series of extra-terrestrial beings. With plenty of pop-culture references it has been favoured by fans of the 80s as well as those who play table-top games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
But this series has seen British singer Kate Bush as the unlikely star of the show. Having been released in 1985, Running Up That Hill first hit number three in the charts - but has now re-entered almost 37 years later.
The 63-year-old singer said: "You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of 'Stranger Things’ has recently been released on Netflix. It features the song, ‘Running Up That Hill’ which is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show - I love it too.
"Because of this, Running Up That Hill is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at number eight. It’s all really exciting! Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song. I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July."
In the fourth series of the show, Running Up That Hill is revealed to be Max Mayfield's (Sadie Sink) favourite song. It even unexpectedly saves the youngster's life.
- Stranger Things is now available to stream on Netflix. The second part of season four will air from July 1.
