Kasey Redfern, Former Lions Punter, Dies at 35 After More Than Three Years of Treatment for CNS Lymphoma

Kasey Redfern, a former NFL punter who played for the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons, died on Tuesday, October 13, at age 35 after being treated since 2023 for a cancerous brain tumor and central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma, according to Yardbarker and The Daily Beast. He is survived by his wife, Lauryl, and their two young sons, Ollie and Logan.

Redfern entered the NFL in 2014, when he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Wofford College. His death also raises a question many readers rarely face: what is CNS lymphoma, and why is it treated so differently from the brain cancers most people have heard of?
