Kartal Yilmaz 'wanted' for Rangers transfer as claim emerges over second Besiktas raid

Rangers are set to close a deal for Besiktas star Ridvan Yilmaz - but reports in Turkey claim they're not finished yet. It's claimed the Ibrox side have also made enquiries regarding the left-back's team-mate Kartal Yilmaz.

The 21-year-old midfielder is said to be valued at just €1million and Fotomac say talks have already been held between the two clubs. Ridvan Yilmaz is expected to complete a transfer to Ibrox this week but Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst played down the prospect of further arrivals at Monday's open training session.

Van Bronckhorst suggested any additional business would be dependent on his side qualifying for the Champions League, which means any potential move for Kartal Yilmaz could not be considered imminent. Van Bronckhorst told Sky Sports: “Hopefully we’ll sign a new player this week but my focus is fully on the Champions League and we all know what benefits come from reaching the group stage - the development of my players and, of course, financially for the club.

“So we will have to see where we are at that moment. “But our first aim is to win the games we have to play to get into the Champions League and be in the group stage.”

Kartal Yilmaz spent last season on-loan at second-tier side Umraniyespor, helping the club win promotion to the Super Lig for the first time in their history.

Meanwhile, Van Bronckhorst also revealed "very positive" talks over a new contract for striker Alfredo Morelos. The Colombian has entered the final year of his current deal but his manager believes an extension is on the cards.

He said: "When he’s fit, he is one option for me. Up front as well we all knows his qualities. I’d rather have him back.

"The other issue he has is the contract he has. But he’s very positive about signing a new contract. We are doing our best to get Morelos to sign a new contract. Hopefully, in the next coming weeks we’ll sort it all out but still the talks are on-going."
