BENGALURU: The state government on Wednesday cited rules and sought to justify in the assembly its inaction against temple authorities that have denied permission to Muslim traders and vendors from carrying out business during Hindu festivals and annual temple fairs in parts of the state.
In the backdrop of the recent bandh by Muslim traders against HC's verdict upholding the government ban on hijab in educational institutions, the organising committees of some temples barred Muslim traders from participating in local festivals, a first such incident in the state. The organizing committee of the historic ‘Kote Marikamba Jatra' in Shivamogga also stated that only Hindus can set up stalls during the 5-day festival which began on March 22.
