BENGALURU: Setting up of a public transport fare committee (PTFRC) to revise fares every three years, continuing with viability gap funding, reimbursing mounting students’ pass dues, and introducing more electric and driveronly buses are some recommendations made in a report submitted by a committee to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday.
The government had constituted a one-man committee headed by former IAS officer MR Srinivasa Murthy in November 2021 to recommend measures to restructure and revive ailing state road transport corporations (RTCs). The much-awaited report says the government may constitute a PTFRC comprising three members with knowledge of operations, finance, and public policy issues, and based on recommendations of this panel the government must approve fare hikes and quantum of subsidies preferably every three years.
