Kansas Football Player Arrested After Reported Bomb Threat to Team’s Facility

Kansas offensive lineman Joe Krause was arrested Monday on charges of an “aggravated criminal threat” that “[caused] terror, evacuation or disruption,” per the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Lawrence, Kan.

The arrest came hours after a bomb threat was called into the Jayhawks’ football facilities, drawing a police response that resulted in the safe evacuation of all present.

“We are aware of a situation involving one of our student-athletes,” a Kansas spokesperson said in a statement. “We take the safety of our staff, student-athletes and coaches very seriously. We are gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”

The spokesperson did not confirm the existence of a link between Krause’s arrest and the threat.

Krause, a redshirt sophomore from Prairie Village, Kans., last saw game action in 2020. He played briefly in the Jayhawks' losses to Iowa State and TCU that year.

Kansas will open its 2023 season against Missouri State on Sept. 1.
