KANPUR: Tension prevailed in the Bithoor area of the district on Thursday after a sack containing suspicious cow flesh and other remains was found in a ‘gaushala’.
After the matter came to light in the morning, villagers gathered there and staged a protest. Protesters demanded that the culprits be arrested and the authorities get tough on such elements.
Soon, chief development officer Mahendra Kumar Singh and police commissioner Vijay Singh Meena rushed to the spot and assured the villagers of prompt action and instructed the Bithoor police to initiate investigation.
Trainee IPS Shiva Singh told media that investigation was being done at the spot. Security has been beefed up in and around the village to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, a communique issued by the office of the district magistrate on Thursday stated that after receiving the information regarding the recovery of a sack containing suspicious cow meat inside a gaushala in Majra Gambhirpur (Bithoor) of Gram Panchayat Bani of Block Chaubepur, the CDO, commissioner of police and commissioner, Kanpur Division inspected the site.
The village head and the villagers present on the spot said that some unknown people had killed the cow here in the night, left their bike and fled after being challenged by the villagers.
On the basis of a complaint by the block development officer, Chaubepur, an FIR has been registered against unknown people under relevant sections of IPC in police station Bithoor. Along with this, instructions have been given to immediately remove the concerned gaupalak from there and take action against him and notices have also been issued to the concerned village head/secretary for supervisory laxity in this regard, the communique stated further.
