KANPUR: The western part of the city on Saturday witnessed second monsoon showers on Saturday noon giving relief to the citizens from hot and sultry weather conditions. South City witnessed light drizzle for a couple of minutes.
The clouds covered the sky around 11 am and thereafter it started raining at 12 noon which continued around 45 minutes. Initially in the first 30 minutes the rainfall was heavy but later it slowed down.
The 45-minute rainfall resulted in water logging in Moti Jheel, Swarup Nagar, Mariampur crossing, the back side of JK Temple and other places forcing people to take alternate routes to reach their destination. The temperature dropped and that gave relief to the citizens. According to meteorologist of CSA University Sunil Pandey , around 20 mm rain was recorded at the CSA centre and 40 mm in Bilhaur and Purana Kanpur areas.
