KANPUR: An elderly man who had gone to withdraw money from a bank was robbed of cash worth Rs 15,000 in Kalyanpur area of the city, on Friday.
The incident came to light after the man regained consciousness and lodged an FIR on Saturday.
The incident took place when one Ramkumar, a resident of Sarai area of Awas Vikas -3, had gone to withdraw money from Kalyanpur branch of State Bank of India on Thursday afternoon. “As soon as he came out of the bank after withdrawing money, two men stopped him on the pretext of asking him address. When the man started giving them directions with regard to the address they were querying for, one among them threw some intoxicant on elderly man’s face. Soon the elderly man was knocked unconscious. Later, the miscreants robbed him of cash worth Rs 15,000 and fled,” said the police.
On regaining consciousness after 18 hours on Saturday, the old man found himself lying near the Asha Devi temple, said police further and added, “The relatives who reached the spot on the information of the matter brought the elderly home.”
Kalyanpur inspector said that appropriate action would be taken and investigations are underway on the basis of inputs provided by the victim.
