Former Ohio State wide receiver Kamryn Babb has been recognized as one of 28 student-athletes deserving of the Big Ten’s Outstanding Sportsmanship Award the conference announced on Tuesday. Women’s soccer player Emaly Vatne was also named as a recipient for the 2022-2023 academic year.
According to the release, “All Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.”
Babb’s story isn’t new to most Ohio State football fans. Out of St. Louis, Missouri, he endured five knee surgeries and finally got on the field last year for one of the most memorable moments of the season when he caught a touchdown pass on November 12 — the first and only catch of his OSU career. It set off a celebration that will always be remembered because of his perseverance and character.

Despite minimal time on the field, Babb was still a two-time captain as voted by his teammates, was the Bill Willis “Block” O jersey honoree for last season, and is a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.
That all speaks volumes about the person that he is and what he has in front of him. We congratulate him and Vatne for the way they conducted themselves in the scarlet and gray.
