Kamal Adwan Hospital In Gaza Faces Critical Shortages

Palestinians inspect damages following an Israeli raid at Kamal Adwan hospital in the northern Gaza Strip

Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last fully operational medical facility in northern Gaza, is facing a dire situation as it struggles to care for over 150 patients, including 15 in intensive care, such as newborn babies. The hospital's director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, has revealed the critical shortages that the hospital is currently experiencing.

According to Abu Safiya, the hospital has completely run out of blood units, essential medications, and basic medical equipment like tubes for chest drainage. This severe lack of supplies has left the hospital's medical staff with nothing to offer patients seeking treatment, leading to what Abu Safiya describes as a catastrophic situation.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) has also raised concerns, stating that health services in the northern Gaza Strip are on the brink of collapse.

Adding to the challenges faced by Kamal Adwan Hospital, ambulance crews attempting to reach injured Palestinians in the hospital's vicinity have reportedly come under direct fire from Israeli forces. Abu Safiya has accused the Israeli military of targeting the hospital's ambulances, with shots fired at the entrance and artillery shells launched, posing a significant threat to the hospital's operations and the safety of its patients and staff.

The escalating violence and critical shortages at Kamal Adwan Hospital highlight the urgent need for immediate intervention to ensure the continuity of essential healthcare services for the vulnerable population in northern Gaza.
