Kai Rooney signs first sponsorship deal after scoring 56 goals for Manchester United academy

Kai Rooney has signed a sportswear sponsorship deal with Puma at just 12-years-old.

Father Wayne was the face of Nike’s football promotions during his heroic playing days and his son is also tipped to enjoy a bright future. Kai netted a whopping 56 goals in United’s academy last season, four of which came against Liverpool in October.

The news of his deal with Puma was shared on the youngster’s Instagram account. The caption said: “Great to sign for @puma ‘Only see great’.

Kai played alongside Cristiano Jr last term, both scoring in the same game in March. Rooney joined the academy set-up in December 2020 while Ronaldo arrived with his Dad at the beginning of last season.

His Dad is currently in the USA after agreeing to become the head coach of former club DC United in the MLS following his exit from financially troubled Derby County. He described how he was a “proud dad" when Kai signed for United 18 months ago.

He added: "I'm delighted for him. He did have other options, other clubs to go to but he decided he wants to sign for Manchester United, so it was his decision and not mine."
