Kai Havertz's moment of magic in the dying embers guided Chelsea to a 1-0 win over Newcastle United.
A gruelling week in the headlines threw a damp blanket over Stamford Bridge, and the Blues struggled to climb through the gears, failing to hit the target inside the first half.
The Chelsea fans' worry was transmitted from the terraces to the pitch as Thomas Tuchel's side continued to fluff their lines - all while as the Magpies' travelling support chanted, 'Mike Ashley, he's coming for you.'
It wasn't until the 89th minute when the German international rose like a phoenix from the ashes with a deft finish to ignite Stamford Bridge into its old self.
Havertz's late effort, which was compared to Dennis Bergkamp by Sky Sports commentator Bill Leslie, sent the home fans into pandemonium, uncovering light at the end of the tunnel amid such agonising times.
The 22-year-old's elusive run into the corridor of uncertainty was met by a delicately lofted pass by Jorginho, which left Dan Burn scrambling in the German's wake.
Havertz, who has begun to warrant his £72m price tag lately, brought the ball down with such grace before stabbing his strike beyond Martin Dúbravka.
The Blues' number twenty-nine has enjoyed a spectacular run of form under the wing of Tuchel, directly contributing towards six goals in just his last seven games.
Havertz is quickly establishing himself as the main man at Cobham, having become Chelsea's top scorer since the former Paris Saint-Germain boss took charge, with 15 goals in all competitions.
He's not only fulfilled the expectations on his shoulders but also that of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, who have each failed to reach the same heights.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Super Sunday, former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said on Havertz's goal, tipping the youngster to lead Tuchel's frontline.
"It is not easy. If you want that chance to get to somebody, it is Havertz because he already knows what he wants to do and how to execute it,"
"A moment before that, Werner had a chance before that but tried to take it on his thigh because he does not trust his feet, Havertz does, and that earlier miss did not affect him. At the moment, he is playing his best football in a Chelsea shirt."
Lukaku and Werner, who have a combined value of £135m according to Transfermarkt, are yet to table a formidable argument as to why they shouldn't be central to the next owners' plans - Havertz has.
