The Metropolitan Police have arrested 32 people at a Just Stop Oil protest in central London.

Demonstrators glued themselves to the road at the top of Whitehall near Trafalgar Square.

The Met said 32 people had been arrested for wilful obstruction of the highway.

A Met Police statement read: “All protestors who had glued and locked themselves onto the road have now been safely removed by specially trained officers.

“Traffic is flowing again in Whitehall and the surrounding areas.

“32 people have been arrested. All for wilful obstruction of the highway.”

The protest is part of a longer plan of disruption in London for the rest of this month, Just Stop Oil said.

In order to force the Government into stopping the use of oil and gas, the group will meet everyday this month at 11am outside Downing Street.

In a series of tweets on their profile, the group showed 32 of its supporters blocking the roads surrouding Trafalgar Square.

In a statement, the group added: “Oil is causing the climate and cost of living crisis. Rocketing energy prices are funding the companies who are torching the climate.

“Oil is fuelling wars and causing droughts, extreme heat, wildfires and crop failures.”

On Wednesday, 30 protesters representing the group were arrested by the police.

The group blockaded two junctions leading to Lambeth Bridge while a further 54 people were arrested on suspicion of wilful obstruction of the highway on Tuesday.
