Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool on front foot against Inter Milan as Champions League visitors are no ‘tourists’

Jurgen Klopp believes attack will be the best form of defence as Liverpool look to see out a two-goal lead in the second leg of their Champions League tie with Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri posed a threat to the Reds in Italy but fell to late goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, and will not simply be “tourists” at Anfield, according to Klopp.

“Two-nil is probably the lead that has been turned over most often in the history of football,” the German told reporters. “If you are [at] half-time and two up and you think you are already through, then you are already on the wrong path.

“The result was much better than I expected. It was a really tough tie and a difficult game to play. We know they have real quality. They won their last game 5-0... it was really impressive.

“They are an experienced team, and they don't come here as tourists. They want to attack the game, and we are not a team who defends results and tries to scrape through. Let's see what we can get from it.”

Talk of a quadruple has heightened in recent weeks with Liverpool lifting the Carabao Cup and challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title, but midfielder Fabinho has insisted such a feat will prove incredibly tough.

“It was good for us to win Carabao Cup, the first competition possible for us to win,” he stated.

“The way we won the cup was special for everyone. When you win one trophy, it's normal that people talk about Liverpool winning four, but I'm not thinking too much about it.

“It's really hard to win three or four trophies. It was hard to recover after the Chelsea final. But the players who played against Norwich and West Ham did really well, and we are still alive in FA Cup and in the fight for Premier League.”
