Jurgen Klopp gives 'honest' verdict on Liverpool aims as Premier League title talk resurfaces

Jurgen Klopp has refused to be drawn on whether or not Liverpool are back in the Premier League title race.

Klopp insisted that his side were out of the running after the 3-2 defeat at Arsenal earlier this month left the Reds 14 points short of their hosts at the Emirates. Liverpool have since won consecutive league games against Manchester City and West Ham to climb to fifth in the league and close the gap on City - widely regarded as favourites - to just seven points.

But despite a chance to pull closer to their rivals, Klopp has refused to be drawn into talk of an imminent title push.

"We have no influence on it," Klopp said. "We don't play Man City or Arsenal now, we play all the others if I am right?"

Jurgen Klopp reveals Steven Gerrard exchange following Aston Villa sacking

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he spoke to Steven Gerrard on Friday morning following the Liverpool legend's sacking at Aston Villa.

Gerrard was relieved of his duties shortly after their 3-0 defeat at Fulham on Thursday evening, leaving them with two wins from 11 games and above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Despite the setback, Klopp has backed Gerrard to bounce back strongly and enjoy success again in his next managerial role.

"I can imagine it's disappointing for him because of the ambitions he had and the things he wanted to achieve at Aston Villa," Klopp said. "It's not cool but I don't think we have to worry now about Stevie. As he said himself yesterday after the game, he knows the game long enough and these kind of things can happen."
