For Jurgen Klopp the thing that hurt most about the Champions League final in Paris, was that losing it was the least of the problems faced by Liverpool ’s passionate supporters.
The Reds boss spoke out about the “crazy” organisation, brutality and disgusting treatment which left his club’s fans “lucky that more didn’t happen” - as Klopp put it when he suggested lives could have been lost in the crushes that poor police tactics produced. And he revealed his own family were caught up in the chaos…but kept it from him before the showdown with Real Madrid, to allow him to concentrate on the game itself.
Liverpool’s players though, seemed affected by the delayed start and worries surrounding supporters, and Klopp insisted: “In the end, I felt for them – and they are passionate Liverpudlians – that the smallest problem we had that night was that we lost the game. Imagine that around the Champions League final. Crazy.
