Jurgen Klopp faces Jordan Henderson decision as Liverpool move on from Mohamed Salah replacement

Your Liverpool morning headlines for October 24, 2022.

Jurgen Klopp faces Jordan Henderson decision as Liverpool poised to rip up midfield

Liverpool's season hit a new low with disappointing defeat at rock-bottom Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Reds failed to score in the Premier League for only the second time in 2022 when they were beaten 1-0 at the City Ground. Liverpool will now look to regain some of their momentum when they aim to secure qualification to the Champions League knockout stages by earning at least a point at Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

The return of Ibrahima Konate to training on Sunday will offer Jurgen Klopp another option at centre-back, where Joe Gomez followed an excellent display against Manchester City with an iffy second half against West Ham United and a poor game at Forest.

Virgil van Dijk remains the first-choice at the heart of defence, with Nat Phillips an alternative. Joel Matip remains out.

At right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to come in for James Milner, who did well during his hour-long stint starting at Forest. On the other flank, Andy Robertson appears to have once again edged ahead of Kostas Tsimikas as first choice.

Alisson Becker remains the undisputed first-choice choice between the sticks, with both Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian poised to again be on the bench in Holland.

Last season, with Mohamed Salah ’s contract due to expire in 2023, Liverpool found themselves repeatedly linked with a move for West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen. Known to be monitoring the England international, Jurgen Klopp publicly admitted his admiration for the winger on more than one occasion each time the Reds were due to face the Hammers

Of course Kopites all wanted Salah to stay, but with contract talks seemingly at an impasse, eyes flickered around for potential replacements if worse came to worst, with Bowen, due to Liverpool’s reported interest and admiration being on record, gaining most the intrigued glances.

Having enjoyed two and a half prolific years in the Championship with Hull City, during which he returned 52 goals in 117 second-tier games, he would register an impressive first full season in the Premier League with West Ham in 2020/21 and hasn’t looked back since.
