Julian Edelman slammed ESPN NFL analyst Alex Smith for his recent criticism of future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady after Smith said Brady played in the “most uncompetitive division in NFL history.”
“Nobody talks about Tom, man. You can’t talk about him like that,” Edelman said on former NFL quarterback Cam Newton’s 4th and 1 YouTube show this week. “Alex Smith is not even that guy, man. He’s not even that kind of guy. He’s a nice guy. You’re not that guy, pal.”
Smith’s comments about Brady’s playing in an uncompetitive AFC East during his 20-year stint with the Patriots came on the heels of Brady’s criticizing the level of mediocrity in the NFL today. Brady said on his own podcast, Let’s Go, that the league’s current football product is “less than what it has been.”
Previously, Smith had pointed out the Patriots’ lack of a competitive AFC East rival during much of Brady’s tenure in New England. The Patriots failed to win the division just once with Brady as the starter.
“My biggest complaint with this, and no offense to you guys–well all three of you guys. He played in the most uncompetitive division, I think, in NFL history,” Smith said on Sunday NFL Countdown last month.
