Jules Kounde insists his Barcelona salary has been paid in full.

The French international rejected a move to Chelsea in order to join the Catalan giants earlier this summer, despite Barca working amidst a backdrop of financial uncertainty.

While Chelsea had agreed a fee with Sevilla for the defender, Kounde was told to wait for Barca to raise the funds required to complete the deal, and even then, the situation remained complicated.

Such was the financial tightrope the LaLiga giants were walking, the 23-year-old was not able to be registered for the first two games of the season as the club were over the League’s salary cap limit.

The sale of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea helped Barca get Kounde on the books and the Frenchman has since made five appearances across all competitions, registering two assists in the process.

Responding to a question on his salary with Barca’s money problems in mind, the player tweeted: “Salary has been paid in full, thanks for your concern.”

Kounde has recently opened up on his decision to reject Chelsea, telling French publication L’Equipe: “I spoke with Tuchel and I also felt that he wanted me to come but I simply preferred Xavi’s speech.”
