Julen Lopetegui set to avoid West Ham sack for now but faces must-win Wolves clash

Julen Lopetegui is set to stay in charge of West Ham for their game against Wolves.

Lopetegui is under increasing pressure but the Hammers are expected to stick with the Spaniard for now, following a board meeting this week.

West Ham face fellow strugglers Wolves in a crunch clash at the London Stadium on Monday and another bad result against his old club would leave Lopetegui on the brink.

Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Leicester left West Ham down in 14th place in the table and Wolves feels like a must-win game for Lopetegui.

The Hammers have managed just four wins in 14 Premier League games since Lopetegui replaced David Moyes in the summer.

Lopetegui was given a two-year contract but the 58-year-old has so far failed to deliver on huge expectation.

West Ham spent more than £120m on nine new players in the summer and hoped Lopetegui could steer them towards a return to Europe.

But the Hammers have managed just one win in five games since beating Manchester United on October 27 and Lopetegui is fighting to save his job.

After the Wolves game, West Ham face Bournemouth and Brighton before Christmas before playing Southampton on Boxing Day and then Liverpool on December 29.
