Judo star marries in Disney-themed Edinburgh wedding after horror crash

A former Scottish Commonwealth silver medalist has spoken of her joy after marrying her ‘Prince Charming’ just years after she came close to losing her life following a horror motorbike crash.

The talented retired judo fighter, Stephanie Inglis, suffered from a horror bike crash in Vietnam in May 2016. Doctors in South East Asia gave her just a one per cent chance of surviving as she spent three weeks in a medically induced coma.

Steph, 33, suffered from a severe head injury after the crash. She was taken to a hospital in Thailand after considerate individuals back in Scotland raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to bring her home after her insurers refused to pay out, the Daily Record reports.

But now she has said that she is looking forward to her “happily ever after” as she has married Ally Morrison in a Disney-themed wedding that took place at Dunfermline Abbey and Edinburgh’s SKYBar on Friday, August 4.

Steph, who is originally from Inverness but now lives in Fife, met her future husband in 2017 on the dating app Tinder. She never thought that she would be this happy again after having a titanium cap bolted to her skull as part of her treatment.

The injury meant that Steph was forced to retire from judo as a blow to the head could prove fatal. But now the future is bright for Steph, who is due to start her probationary year as a primary school teacher next week, following her “perfect wedding day” which left her feeling like a “Disney princess”.

Speaking to the Daily Record, she said: “Never could I have imagined in my dreams to find someone like Ally or be as happy as this. I’m just so lucky. My only wish is that all my friends and family experience this themselves.

“As cheesy as it is, I’ve said that Disney has sold their love stories short. They’ve not done it justice. Our wedding day was absolutely awesome.

“We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We had a Disney theme and it just fit so nicely. Our ceremony was at Dunfermline Abbey which was just absolutely beautiful.

“Then we had our reception at the SKYBar in Edinburgh with all our friends and family. It was a beautiful day - we were very lucky.”

She added: “We met on Tinder in 2017. Ally was working up in Wick at the time and I was living with mum and dad. We had our first date in Inverness. I told him from the off that I wanted to get married and hopefully, if I’m lucky enough, to have three kids one day.

“And to have a good enough job so that we can go to Disney World every couple of years. He didn’t run away so he knows what he’s signed himself up for.”

The loved up couple are now looking forward to their honeymoon in October which will see them travel to Texas to visit the home of Ally’s beloved Dallas Cowboys. They’ll then jet off for a week in the Hawaiian sunshine before finishing off with a visit to Disney World in Orlando.
