Judd Trump stuns Ronnie O'Sullivan with magical 147 maximum break in snooker final

Judd Trump wowed fans with a magical 147 maximum break in the Champion of Champions snooker final against great rival Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Trump's sensational break came in the penultimate frame of the first session against O'Sullivan in Bolton. World No.1 and seven-time Crucible king O'Sullivan looked to be running away with the showpiece final, capitalising on Trump's mistakes to take a convincing 6-1 lead.

But 2019 world champion Trump responded in incredible fashion by potting all 15 reds and blacks before holding his nerve on the colours to achieve the amazing feat. Trump punched the air in celebration after potting the 36 requisite balls to create a piece of history on one of the biggest stages in the sport.

The latest final between the two most exciting players of this generation threatened to prove an extremely one-sided affair as O'Sullivan ran riot early on. The Rocket, imperious all week, made breaks of 96, 103 and 88 to take a five-frame advantage, before Trump produced his own moment of inspiration.

The Bristol potter had the cue ball on a string in his wonderful 147 - reviving his tournament hopes against his childhood idol after potting a brilliant opening red.

He soaked in the superb atmosphere at the University of Bolton Stadium, after he was roared on to complete his seventh tournament maximum break and only the second in the tournament's history.

Trump has also become just the second player to hit a 147 against O'Sullivan. Legendary Scot Stephen Hendry is the only other cueist to achieve perfection against the Rocket.

There is no cash prize for Trump's break, but the winner of the prestigious Champion of Champions event pockets a cool £150,000 - and the 'Ace in the Pack' has fired himself right back into the contest.

Fuelled by his 147, Trump claimed the last frame of the session with a fine 96 break to trail 6-3 and power himself right back into the match against the exquisite O'Sullivan.

Defending champion Trump will still need an almighty comeback against O'Sullivan, a three-time winner of the event, in what promises to be an enthralling Sunday evening climax.
