Former NBA player J.R. Smith has been arrested in Texas on a family violence charge, according to Hunt County booking records, adding an unexpected development to the post-basketball chapter of a career that took him from NBA arenas to a college golf course.

Smith, 41, was arrested by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office on September 29 and booked on a charge of assault causing bodily injury involving family violence. Booking records showed no bond had been set as of Tuesday afternoon, and Smith was being held at the Hunt County Detention Center.
