Rangers appear to have been given the green light to sign Josh Maja.
The 24-year-old is set to be released by French side Bordeaux amid their controversial league situation.
It has been confirmed by the footballing authorities in France that the suspended game between Bordeaux and Rodez has been declared a defeat for the home side.
The match was abandoned after one individual Bordeaux supporter attacked an opposition player on the field.
As a result, Bordeaux will stay in Ligue 2 and will not earn promotion into the top flight of French football. Instead, Metz have been promoted as the second-placed team in the division.
And the good news for Rangers, as things stand, is that with no promotion to Ligue 1, Bordeaux will not have Maja tied down on a contract, as the clause in his deal won't now be activated.
This will make Maja a free agent. The former Sunderland striker has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox for some time.
Nothing is cut and dry at this stage quite yet though, as Bordeaux have appealed the decision.
A short statement reads: "The Disciplinary Commission of the LFP today issued a decision that is as incomprehensible as it is disproportionate, both in view of the elements of the file and the case law.
"FC Girondins de Bordeaux will contact the CNOSF as soon as possible to defend its rights and sporting fairness."
