Every so often, you get a performance so remarkable that you have to see it to believe it. The Minnesota Vikings got that on Sunday from quarterback Josh Dobbs and his play from their 31-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons will live in Vikings lore forever.
It isn’t that Dobbs showed up in Minnesota just five days ago or that he was playing on his fifth team in the last 12 months. It was that he played borderline lights out football during the second half and led them to victory.
Let’s take a look at how this game will live in the lore of Vikings history.
First off, Dobbs was at practice with the team, but he didn’t take a single snap nor did he throw a pass to any of the Vikings receivers. Not only that, but he didn’t even know most of his teammates’ names.
“That’s for next week,” Dobbs said.
Let’s set that aside for a moment. That was beyond impressive for any player, but Dobbs didn’t know the playbook. He told reporters that Kevin O’Connell was essentially diagramming plays for him through the headset prior to the play calls.

This is such a remarkable win for many reasons and it’s crazy that they were able to pull this off. The main reason is because of Dobbs’ intelligence. He is a rocket scientist after all.
Will this continue? Probably not. That’s just the nature of the National Football League. What you won’t do is forget where you were when Dobbs played a massively impressive game on the level of Sam Bradford in week two of 2016 against the Packers.
