Jose Mourinho fuels Chelsea manager return rumours after Todd Boehly sacked Graham Potter

Chelsea are on the search for a new manager once again under Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. Graham Potter was sacked on Sunday evening after just six months in charge at Stamford Bridge - suffering the same fate as Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues are sat 11th in the Premier League table after Potter only won 12 of his 32 games in all competitions as Blues boss. Champions League qualification is looking highly unlikely this term but Chelsea still remain in the competition with a quarter-final tie against Real Madrid on the horizon.

Bruno Saltor has become interim boss for the foreseeable future whilst the club begins the process of considering a number of candidates ahead of a permanent appointment. Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and Luis Enrique have all been linked with the vacant position, whilst Julian Nagelsmann remains a serious contender to replace Potter, football.london understands.

Another man to be linked with the job is former Blues boss Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager enjoyed two stints at Stamford Bridge, winning three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups.

Mourinho has sparked speculation over a potential surprise return to west London after he was asked about his future at a press conference in the wake of Potter's departure from Chelsea. "I don’t speak about my future with my friends or journalists," he told reporters.

"Our [Roma] CEO Berardi said a few months ago that I would have stayed, but it’s his interpretation of things and the same applies to [journalist Ivan] Zazzaroni. From a contract perspective, I have another year left, but contracts sometimes are not the most important thing."

Mourinho hardly fits in with what Boehly is looking for in a manager as he aims to deliver on his long-term vision following a £4.25billion takeover in May 2021. However, the 60-year-old is enjoying an impressive spell with Roma in Italy and may be the best option to bring success back to Stamford Bridge with a Champions League trophy still up for grabs this term.
