Jorge Ramos Reveals The Day When He Will Leave Univision After Nearly 40 Years

En español

Mexican journalist Jorge Ramos has announced the date of his departure from Univision after more than three decades as one of the network's most prominent figures and the main face of Univision Noticias.

"This is not a goodbye. I will continue hosting 'Noticiero Univision' until December and will share my professional plans afterward," Ramos said when he first revealed his decision to leave the company. "I am deeply grateful for these four decades at Univision and incredibly proud to have been part of a team that has built a strong legacy over the years."

As previously announced, that final day is approaching.

Reflecting on the countdown, Ramos shared a video highlighting various stages of his career at the leading Spanish-language network in the United States.

"This Friday will be my last newscast on Univision after 38 years, and Sunday will mark the final episode of 'Al Punto' after 17 years. I am full of gratitude," wrote the legendary journalist.

The network has announced that the 66-year-old Mexican journalist's position will not be filled. Univision has announced that Ilia Calderón will take over as the primary anchor of 'Noticiero Univision.' Calderón, a Colombian journalist, will become the first Afro-Latina to lead a national primetime newscast in the United States solo.

Ramos' departure marks the end of an era for Spanish-language news in the U.S. He is the only Spanish-speaking journalist to be widely recognized by Americans and has built a career on holding power to account, challenging presidents from both parties—including Barack Obama and Donald Trump—as well as Latin American leaders ranging from the late Hugo Chávez, his successor Nicolás Maduro, to El Salvador's Nayib Bukele.

Ramos has also been a staunch advocate for immigration, even crossing the border as an undocumented migrant himself to illustrate the dangers of the journey.

In addition to stepping down from 'Noticiero Univision,' Ramos will leave his Sunday opinion program 'Al Punto.' Though not officially confirmed, his long-form interview show 'Algo Personal,' which aired for two weeks on ViX, is also likely concluding.
