Jordan Jones opens up on "hardest six months" of career

Jordan Jones insists he’s back in his happy place after enduring the “hardest six months” of his career at Wigan since leaving Rangers.

St Mirren beat off interest from both sides of the border to land the Northern Ireland winger in a deadline day loan swoop and he could go into Jim Goodwin’s Buddies side against Motherwell tonight.

Former Rangers and Kilmarnock star Jones admits the Scottish Premiership is where he’s been happiest.

And he feels right at home in Paisley already where he has teamed up with three ex-Killie pals – and half expects another to bounce in.

He joked: “I already know Eamonn Brophy, Alan Power and Greg Kiltie from my time at Rugby Park and I keep expecting Boydie [Kris Boyd] to walk into the dressing room!

“I had spoken to a lot of clubs north and south of the border but I went with my gut. Jim Goodwin has seen what I can do in Scotland and believes in me. I want to repay the faith he has in me.

“I enjoyed being at Sunderland last season but looking back at my career I’m at my happiest in Scotland.

“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to come back up the road, if I’m happy I’m sure my performances will follow.

“I want to show people how good I am. I have probably had the hardest six months of my career at Wigan. You try to leave your problems behind you at work but sometimes take them home with you.

“I have a nine-month-old boy now and I wanted to be the best dad I could be but sometimes you come home and you can’t stop thinking about the situation.

“It hasn’t worked out so well. I have two-and-a-half years left on my deal there but I want to play.”
