Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has played down Liverpool’s top four chances following their victory over Fulham.
Mo Salah’s controversial penalty handed the Reds a vital 1-0 win in their quest for Champions League football, as Liverpool made it five wins on the bounce. The win over Fulham, now means Jurgen Klopp’s men sit six points behind Newcastle, who currently occupy third place.
Liverpool’s kind run-in, which includes games against the likes of Leicester and Southampton, suggests they could make a late play for top four but with the Magpies still having a game in-hand over Liverpool, Jordan Henderson now believes the gap between the two is insurmountable.

Being questioned on whether he thinks his side can still finish in the top four, Henderson told Sky Sports: “Can we finish in the top four? I doubt it.
“I think if you look at who is ahead of us, they are very good and quite far ahead. I think we’re just thinking about us and our performance levels. Hopefully we can be a lot more consistent when we come back after the summer.”
Clearly displeased with his side’s performance, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp faced the same question and gave what has become a typical Klopp answer. “I cannot believe these questions, I’m embarrassed to answer them all of the time,” he said.
“I have no clue, you have to ask Manchester United and Newcastle what they think about it. The only chance we have is to win football matches, then we will see.”
With the Magpies only having to win three of their last five fixtures to secure a top four place, the proposition of Champions League football returning to St James Park for the first time since 2003 now solely lies in the hands of Eddie Howe’s men.
