Jonjo Shelvey says emotional Newcastle farewell on St James' Park turf as he joins Nottingham Forest

Jonjo Shelvey has signed on the dotted line for Nottingham Forest to bring his Newcastle United career to an end.

The midfielder passed his medical with no issues and agreed a two and a half year deal with the Premier League relegation candidates. Shelvey made 186 appearances for United in the Premier League and Championship for Newcastle, scoring 16 goals.

He also made an additional 16 appearances in the cups, scoring two goals. Shelvey leaves with the best wishes of Newcastle after seven years on Tyneside.

The player was given a proper goodbye as he said farewell on the pitch at half-time during Newcastle's clash with Southampton, flanked by his three children. The home support gave Shelvey a huge ovation as he said goodbye to St James' Park.

Eddie Howe said: "Jonjo has been a great servant for the club and we wish him well. We didn't want him to go but we had to respect the wishes of the player."
