Actor Jonathan Majors has been sentenced to a 52-week in-person domestic violence intervention program after being convicted of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in December. The charges, which are a misdemeanor and a violation, carried a sentence of up to one year in prison. Prosecutors requested a sentence of domestic violence programming, with a six-month jail alternative if Majors failed to complete the program, as well as a full order of protection for the victim, Grace Jabbari.
The 52-week sentencing is set to take place in person in Los Angeles, with Majors required to continue mental health counseling and therapy, providing the court with updates on treatment. His attorneys have requested the possibility of conducting some sessions virtually, pending employment opportunities.
The charges stem from an incident in March 2023 when Majors was involved in a physical altercation with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, resulting in his conviction on two charges and acquittal on two others after a two-week trial.
During the sentencing, Jabbari read a victim impact statement, expressing concerns about Majors' lack of remorse and potential for future harm. Majors, accompanied by his girlfriend Meagan Good, maintained his innocence and plans to appeal the conviction.
Despite initial expectations of no jail time due to it being his first conviction, Majors' statements in a Good Morning America interview expressing shock over the verdict and lack of remorse led to a revised sentencing. The actor has faced professional consequences, including being dropped from Marvel Studios projects and by his PR firm and managers.
Additionally, Majors faces a civil suit from Jabbari, alleging assault, battery, and defamation related to statements made post-trial. The sentencing was delayed to April 8 after a motion to set aside the verdict was filed by Majors' defense team.
