Jonathan David message clear as Everton given six weeks to turn season around

It's time for your Everton FC morning headlines on Tuesday, November 15.

'They have to' - Everton sent blunt Jonathan David transfer message for January

Everton have been urged by one of their former players to sign one of Europe’s top strikers in the January transfer window.

The Blues were light on attacking recruitment during the summer window, despite Richarlison completing a £60million move to Tottenham Hotspur. That, combined with injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, have left Everton short of goals up front. Frank Lampard ’s side have scored just 11 goals in their 15 Premier League fixtures this season, which puts them as the joint-second lowest scores alongside Nottingham Forest, with Wolves at the bottom with just eight.

One player who has been tentatively linked with a move to Goodison Park is Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canada international has reportedly attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and whose future is currently the subject of speculation.

Former Everton star Kevin Campbell has urged his old club to go and sign David when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. Campbell, who scores 48 goals during his time with the Blues, feels that the Lille striker would give Lampard’s side a much-needed boost.

Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell have 44 days to solve five major Everton issues

The biggest six weeks in Everton's season may well be this period in which a ball is not even kicked.

Frank Lampard and his staff have a lot of work to do to improve a Blues side that has taken steps backward in the final games before the World Cup break. There are positives to build on, which should not get lost amid the disappointment and frustration of the defeats at Bournemouth and against Leicester City.

But it is clear there are some outstanding issues that need to be resolved and there is little doubt Everton could do with seeking some relief in the January transfer window. There is a long way to go in this campaign and if the next few weeks, which include a trip to Australia for the Sydney Super Cup, are used wisely then this can be still a season of clear progress. Here are some of the topics that need work on.

Getting players fit after mounting injury issues in recent weeks

Frank Lampard can barely catch a break with injuries. His first months were plagued by knocks to key players and he had to carefully manage the likes of Yerry Mina and Fabian Delph to ensure they could play a role in the relegation battle Everton ultimately won. Over the summer it was his mission to make the squad more robust and he succeeded, particularly in defence and in the centre of the midfield.

But just as the season was about to start he lost his goalscorer in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and then two centre backs - Mina and Ben Godfrey - suffered serious injuries in the first 70 minutes of the first game against Chelsea. Heading into the game with Leicester City it appeared the squad was returning to full strength. But over the past 10 days Calvert-Lewin has suffered a recurrence of his knee injury, hurt his hamstring and battled through a shoulder problem. Mason Holgate and James Garner missed the Bournemouth league game with knocks, Anthony Gordon was nursing a broken hand and Vitalii Mykolenko was withdrawn holding the area around his collar bone during the match.

Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye were involved at the Vitality Stadium but only after winning late fitness battles. The next six weeks offers a chance for a physical and psychological reset. By the time Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Goodison Park on Boxing Day only Andros Townsend is expected to be unavailable, though he will also be nearing a return by then.
