Jonathan David has already given his Chelsea verdict ahead of Champions League clash with Lille

There will plenty of eyes watching Lille striker Jonathan David when he takes to the field to face Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

A plethora of clubs have been linked with moves for the exciting 22-year-old and a strong performance against the reigning champions will only intensify the summer chase for him.

Chelsea are among the clubs reported to hold an interest in David, alongside Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle and it is easy to see why.

Following an unsettled summer that saw Lille lose their manager and a number of first-team stars, many expected the reigning Ligue 1 victors to struggle.

And while the club sit in a disappointing 11th place, David has still mustered 16 goals in all competitions, including three in six Champions League games.

He is someone Chelsea will need to be wary of when he takes to the pitch at Stamford Bridge in what could be an audition for a summer move against Thomas Tuchel's side.

The Canadian has previously spoken of a move to the west London club in glowing terms, via his representatives.

Prior to his Lille move, David's agent, Nick Mavromaras, described a potential Chelsea transfer as part of his dreams, but that any move at that stage needed to be a sensible one.

"He has been a childhood fan of Barcelona. Real Madrid, Man United and Chelsea are just as much part of his dreams, but for the time being we must remain humble: the next step in his career cannot be too big," he said via MailOnline in 2020.

"Without a doubt: Jonathan is ready for the next step. Gent has boosted his career, the club did a lot for him. I understand that they would like to keep him longer, but Jonathan wants to go ahead.

"The Belgian league is fantastic for young players, but the moment for the next step arrives and this will come in the summer."
