Jon Dahl Tomasson would be blockbuster Hibs boss and has already endeared him to fans with Rangers shot - Tam McManus

Confession time to a long since dumped girlfriend back in the days when I played for Dundee.

The story begins with an end of season holiday to Magaluf which we'd arranged with a few of the boys.

She wasn't happy, she put her foot down and said under no circumstances was I to go.

Torture, no room for negotiation, no meant no.

Then came the eureka moment. I managed to get some Dundee Football Club headed letters and printed a few off for the lads.

A fake note stated it was 'compulsory' for every player under contract at the club to travel to Magaluf, failure to attend will result in a fine of two weeks wages.

It was addressed to Tom McManus and arrived in plenty of time. Seven or eight of those letters arrived at various households of Dundee players, especially the ones who were married.

Five unforgettable days in the sun and I'm sure there will be a few fake documents being drawn up at clubs across the country now, I know some of the Hibs boys could do with the chance of a reboot this summer.

It's been a very poor season, nobody is in any doubt about that, it's also compounded by finishing third in the previous campaign and competing in all of the cups.

Reaching the League Cup Final only to lose to Celtic was a high point but in general it's been an absolute disaster.

The irony is the brightest point in the league was left to the last game and Saturday's 4-0 win over St Johnstone.

That dead rubber did have a huge positive in the performance of James Scott and him going from zero to hero with a hat-trick to take his tally to four goals from the final two games.

This is a player who had become something of a figure of fun amongst the Hibs support. Let's be honest, when he first came in he was nowhere near fit.

He'd suffered a bad injury when he was at his parent club Hull City and came to Easter Road when he was miles off it.

The manager at the time was Jack Ross and he had a public pop at him about fitness, slowly but surely he's come to the fore. That has probably more been through necessity with the loss of Martin Boyle, Christian Doidge and Kevin Nesbitt's injuries, before that he was well down the pecking order.

From the Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts through to Saturday he's been absolutely tremendous.

Scott has worked hard, he's led the line superbly and has scored goals but a month ago you wouldn't have found one single Hibs supporter who'd have wanted to sign him on a permanent contract for next season.

All of a sudden there is a clamour for the club to sign him. It's amazing how the fortunes of a striker can turn in a couple of weeks.

This is a guy who was getting stick from the fans even when he was warming up as a sub at Easter Road a few weeks ago.

Fans who were dishing out abuse are now desperate for him to stay after a few games. Bonkers.

Scott's situation is just one of many for whoever comes in as the new manager. It appears it's coming down to either Lee Johnson and Jon Dahl Tomasson for the job. My belief is that 95-per-cent would want Dahl Tomasson.

The Dane would be a blockbuster appointment for Hibs and I thought he'd be out reach given his success at Malmo.

He won the Swedish league with them and guided them into the Champions League group stages and beat Rangers with ten men at Ibrox.

There was also that famous video which went viral where he said Rangers needed the money, that would have endeared him to every football fan in Scotland outside Ibrox.

The fans would love it if he came in and the season tickets would fly out the door.

Whoever comes in needs time, he'll need to bring in his own players as there were too many occasions this season where the club have overreacted to a poor run, discontent in the stand and social media, the board needs to be stronger and stand by their guy.
