Johnny Depp took care of restaurant staff after £50k splurge as 'large tip' split between them

The restaurant where Johnny Depp shocked staff with his appearance earlier this week has finally dished out who he left the 'large tip' for.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 58, reportedly racked up a £50,000 bill at a curry house in Birmingham, where he enjoyed a meal with his pal Jeff Beck, 77.

Depp has been spotted in a number of places around the UK since his bombshell legal battle win against ex-wife Amber Heard.

He reportedly left waiters at the eatery starstruck as he dished out a generous tip.

The exact amount Depp gave out has not been shared by the restaurant, but operations director at Varanasi, Mo Hussain, has revealed who received the tip.

He told BirminghamLive : "They wanted to keep the amount of the bill disclosed. Anybody who will book a restaurant out like that will spend a lot of money. It was all down to what they were eating and drinking too. Expensive champagne - items we would never really sell on a day-to-day basis. Premium items shall I say.

"The tip that he left has been shared out with the staff - he looked after them and the staff looked after him very well while he was here.

"From memory I think we have only ever had one person order the £500 cocktail, so if Johnny did order that he would only be the second person to do so."

Mo also added that since Jonny's appearance, the restaurant's bookings have surged.

It comes after Depp's defamation lawsuit against Amber came to a close in the United States last week.

A jury found Amber's 2018 article in the Washington Post about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse to be defamatory and awarded £8.2 million in damages to Johnny.

Amber won on one count of her counter-suit, successfully arguing Johnny's press agent defamed her by claiming her allegations were “an abuse hoax” aimed at capitalising on the #MeToo movement.

The jury awarded her £1.5 million in damages.

The actor was not in court for the jury findings, and has instead been touring with musician Jeff Beck appearing at a host of UK dates.
