Johnny Depp addresses claims he's been 'boycotted' by Hollywood after Amber Heard trial

Johnny Depp has addressed the claims that he has been "boycotted" in Hollywood, which came two years ago amid the high-profile court case between himself and ex-wife Amber Heard.

The movie star, 59, has spoken out while at the Cannes press conference today (May 17), with him admitting that he "doesn't think about Hollywood".

He previously claimed that there was a "boycott" of him in Hollywood in a 2021 interview, which followed on from the court case, but now he claims to no longer feel this way.

Asked about feeling "boycotted" by Hollywood, the Pirates of the Caribbean star said: "Did I feel a boycott by Hollywood?

"Well, you’d have to not have a pulse to feel at that point, ‘None of this is happening, it’s just a weird joke or I have been asleep for 35 years.’

"Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing, because of something that is merely a bunch of kind of vowels and consonants floating in the air, you feel a boycott," he went on after being asked by Deadline about "feeling boycotted".

He then added: "Do I feel a boycott now? No, not at all. I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don’t think about Hollywood.

Johnny then said that he doesn't have "much further need" for Hollywood, with the actor touching upon how he finds it to be a "strange" time where everybody "wants to be themselves, but they can’t, they must fall in line, conform".

Johnny won the right to sue his ex-wife Amber Heard in a $50million (£36m) libel case back in 2021, which came just days after he spoke out about a "Hollywood boycott".

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor's case related to a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which Amber wrote about surviving domestic abuse - although she did not name the actor in the piece.

Speaking to The Sunday Times in 2021 about his film Minamata, Johnny said: "Some films touch people… and this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things.

"And for anything… for Hollywood’s boycott of, erm, me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years?"
