John Souttar on dealing with Rangers transfer 'setback' as move officially confirmed

John Souttar on dealing with Rangers transfer 'setback' as move officially confirmed

JOHN SOUTTAR has admitted it was 'difficult' when his move to Rangers faced a transfer setback in January.

The Scotland centre-back agreed a four-year deal with the Ibrox club in a pre-contract agreement.

And Rangers were keen to bring Souttar to the club immediately, however a move was blocked with Hearts sticking to their transfer demands for a quick-fire move.

Souttar - who was officially announced to have signed on until 2026 at Rangers today - admits it was a "difficult" situation at the time.

But he insists he quickly moved on to focus on his efforts at Hearts before making the move in the summer.

Speaking on Rangers TV, Souttar explained: "It's been a long time since I obviously signed the pre-contract in January but it's a brilliant day for me and my family to join Rangers.

"It nearly happened in January so it's obviously dealing with that setback of it not happening and focusing on football.

"It was difficult at the time but after it was over with it was over with, so I just gave 100 per cent focus on the task in hand at Hearts.

"I obviously had that small injury problem a few months ago but it was always in my head to get back for these Scotland games and get ready for the summer."
