John shared a glimpse inside their festivities at home in Tullylish, County Down, reports RSVP Live.
On Christmas morning, all three of them posed side by side and he said: "Merry Christmas!"
Later in the day, with Tara and James' Christmas Day outfits on full show, he added: "Clann."
John revealed the happy news that they were expanding their family after celebrating his birthday at home back in August.
Sharing snaps of himself and a glowing Tara, John wrote: “Lovely birthday weekend with @tara_mcareavey, James and bump”.
Their son James turned two in October.
Last Christmas, he took to Instagram to share some photos from the year gone by, writing: "Heart full, 2021 was yet another blessing, can’t wait for 2022. Happy New Year! #godisgreat #blessed."
John and Tara first met in Galway in 2012 after he decided to take a holiday following a football match in memory of his late wife Michaela.
He said they texted each other for a while, taking things slow before they started dating - though he felt a spark right away . The couple got engaged in October 2015 and tied the knot in a romantic and private ceremony in Kildare in 2016.
In October 2020, they welcomed their first child, a baby boy named James.
