Former English Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has deemed John Lundstram's red card as the WRONG decision - but can understand why it was given on the day.
Willie Collum brandished a straight red to the Rangers midfielder for his challenge on Martin Boyle during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Easter Road. The dismissal was the first of two for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side as Alfredo Morelos was also sent packing in the capital. The Light Blues lost a last-gap goal in injury time to drop their first points in the league this term.
The Ibrox side have since lodged an appeal to the SFA for 'wrongful dismissal' with a fast-track hearing date yet to be set. The flashpoint incident from the capital was given the Ref Watch treatment on Sky Sports this morning with Gallagher and former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock coming to the same conclusion. A lot of comparisons were drawn between Lundstram and Kieran Tripper, who initially was shown a red card against Manchester City before VAR intervened and the decision was withdrawn and a yellow card given.
On the decision, the ex-EPL whistler said: "They are almost carbon copy incidents.
"I understand why he [the referee] has given a red card on the day.
"I think if he looks back at that, he will think the same way Jarred [Gillett] did with Kieran Trippier.
"I think [John] Lundstram was very, very unlucky. A yellow card would have been enough.
"I think it's cynical. It's not dangerous and it's not serious foul play."

Warnock added: "That's the word isn't it. Cynical.
"I think both of the fouls are cynical.
"They know exactly what they are trying to achieve from the foul. It is to stop that momentum of the attack."
