John Kavanagh will coach a number of US Marines this Thursday alongside his idol Royce Gracie, he has announced.
Kavanagh has often spoken about how Gracie inspired him to get involved in Jiu Jitsu and subsequently became Ireland's first-ever black belt.
And the Dublin coach will travel to Hawaii to teach a seminar alongside the UFC's original champion to a number of.
Taking to social media, Kavanagh said: "'I'm teaching a seminar alongside Royce Gracie tomorrow. To a bunch of marines on Honolulu island. There's no way to describe how strange this is to me. Without Royce I don't get into MMA/BJJ....now 26yrs later I get to teach alongside him...in Hawaii."
The seminar takes place at the Semper Fit Gym Basketball Court at the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii.
Friends and family of Kavanagh were delighted for the famed MMA coach.
One person said: "It’s amazing how far you have come and all you have achieved. We are so proud of you as always."
While another said: "Well done John. Hard work and dedication always pays off."
