John Goodman has shown off his impressive 200lb weight loss as he made a rare public appearance with his wife Anna Beth.
On Monday, September 28, the 74-year-old attended the US premiere of his new film Digger, which he stars in alongside Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed and Jesse Plemons.
Wearing a navy suit, he posed with his wife Anna Beth, who donned a maroon dress and matching heels.
Goodman has previously said that Beth, whom he has been married to for 36 years, has been instrumental in helping him with his alcoholism, and in turn, his weight loss.
The Hollywood star, who shot to fame for his role in Rosanne, has lost more than 14 stone after giving up drinking back in 2007, and has remained sober ever since.
“It was 30 years of a disease that was taking its toll on everyone around me, and it had got to the point where, every time I did it, it was becoming more and more debilitating. It was life or death,” Goodman said.
“It was time to stop.”
His astonishing weight loss was further aided after cutting sugar out of his diet, hiring a health coach, and working out throughout the week and by 2023, he had lost most of the weight.
Goodman later told AARP that he considered the key to his successful weight loss to be “portion control”.
“I was just shoving everything into my mouth,” he said. “But I don’t want to be an example to anybody when the weight comes thundering back on — when I start eating Crisco out of the can with a spoon and a side of confectioner’s sugar.”
Goodman has said that being obese has been “a waste”.
He added jokingly: “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a** and figure out what you're going to eat next.”
Goodman plays the President of the United States in Tom Cruise’s new satirical film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, which premieres in cinemas on Friday, October 2.
