Jofra Archer nearing top speed as England fast bowler plots long-awaited comeback

Jofra Archer looks like he is close to hitting top speed once more with a ball in his hand - much to the delight of England fans.

Archer was cranking up the pace in the nets with his England team mates in Barbados, but sadly the fans won’t be seeing him do the same on the field once the Test begins on Wednesday.

In fact, Archer is unlikely to play much red ball cricket at all next summer as he builds up his loads in the white ball game first, most probably in the T20 Blast and then The Hundred.

But it is clear that the elbow, which was heavily strapped during his bowling session here, is not causing him anywhere near the same pain as it once was which is great news for the England camp.

When asked how he was doing midway through his session along with Saqib Mahmood, Archer replied with a smile: “I’m doing fine thanks. All good.”

Earlier in the session, Archer had also got through a strong fielding session in which he was seen throwing the ball at the stumps with real intensity.

There were no winces or grimaces as he got through his work before heading to the nets to give Ollie Pope a few overs of the quick stuff.

Ollie Robinson was also full of bowling during the training session that was optional for players.

Robinson appeared to back up interim head coach Paul Collingwood’s assessment that he was likely to be available for selection in Barbados after recovering from his back spasm at the start of the tour.
