You won’t find too many people out there who don’t think Major League Baseball’s “Field of Dreams” game is insanely cool.
It’s based on the 1989 film and you get a nostalgia hit from just watching it. Whether it’s the OG uniforms the teams are wearing or the legit cornfield in the backdrop. everything about it just feels so poetic. It’s just beautiful. It takes you back to that place you were as a kid again.
It means a lot for most players to play in this game, but Joey Votto explained exactly why it means so much to him. He got very personal and it was so touching.
Votto explained that he grew up on this movie. It’s what sparked the drive for him to be where he is today. He also explained how it connects him to his father, who he lost more than 14 years ago.
I’ll let him explain the rest.
Watching Field of Dreams before the game tomorrow. I thought I would share a few thoughts about what the movie and this trip mean to me.

Getting the opportunity to play a game at the mythical field that sowed the seeds of hope for a Major League Baseball career is a significant moment for me. Couple that with the father/son connection, and this game is an exceptional moment in my life.

That’s good stuff from Votto, man. Very touching. Almost feels like someone is peeling onions in the crib right now. Sheesh.
Fans appreciated this story so much from him.

This kind of tugs at the ole heartstrings! Not sure the game is romanticized very much anymore. Including by me. This takes me back. Thanks @JoeyVotto https://t.co/Y8SIUWtntA

This thread is worth reading whether you're a baseball fan or not. The movie is iconic not just because it's about baseball. Actually,if you think it's just about baseball, then you missed the whole point of the movie. #FieldOfDreams @fodmoviesite Good luck to @JoeyVotto tonight! https://t.co/gBN6m9CH4j

I absolutely love this. Baseball to me is more than a sport, it was a way that I was blessed to bond with my boys. Often I think about the baseball fields that they once played on. Always my two favorite baseball players ever get to call me dad. @calebvannorstr2 And Ryan https://t.co/ZyNQnfFEQQ

Thanks for sharing, Joey.
I've had some similar moments, and you drew me back to watching Field of Dreams on what must have been a 9-inch screen in a minivan at maybe 6 y/o. Sure enough, we were driving to Houston to go to Splashtown USA with my immediate family and my cousins. https://t.co/V2cGhNij0Z
