Joey Barton arrested after alleged attack near golf club

  • Former Manchester City and QPR midfielder Joey Barton has been arrested following an alleged assault near a golf club in Huyton, Merseyside.
  • The 43-year-old is one of two men taken into custody after reports of an assault on Sunday, 8 March.
  • Emergency services were called to Fairway at approximately 9pm, where a man was found to have sustained injuries to his face and ribs.
  • The victim was subsequently taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries.
  • Both Barton and a 50-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding.
