Joe Duffy's mum Mabel Duffy has passed away aged 92 in Kiltipper Woods Care Centre in County Dublin.
NK Management, Joe's management agency, took to Instagram to announce the news.
They wrote: "It is with great sadness that NK Management announce the passing of Joe Duffy's beloved mother, Mabel (92) on Sunday afternoon in Kiltipper Woods Care Centre surrounded by her loving family."
Mabel's funeral mass is set to take place on Wednesday morning at 11.30am in St Matthew's Church in Ballyfermot.
Mabel has been living at home until recently. Joe has been vocal about concerns he had around the effects of cocooning for her, explaining that she was missing her regular activities such as going to mass and the hairdressers.
"One of the things she missed most was the church and getting her hair done and they were the first two-port of call when the lockdown ended," the presenter said in August 2020.
Mabel is predeceased by her husband Jimmy Duffy, who died in 1984.
Joe has credited his mother with keeping him humble despite his success as a popular radio host.
"I'm not likely to ever lose the run of myself. Why? My mother Mabel says to me ‘You’re never as good as they say you are, just as you’re never as bad as they say you are either. Just keep a grip and stay grounded," he said.
Mabel's death notice reads: "Mabel, beloved wife to the late Jimmy, cherished mother of James, Joseph, Peter, Brendan and Pauline, predeceased by her youngest son Aidan (25).
"Sadly, missed by her loving family, sisters Monica and Patsy, In-laws, Bernard, Stephen and Marie, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Grandmother to Wayne, Geoffrey, Ciara, Ian, Emma, Darragh, Seana, Conor, Ellen, Seán, Ronan and her great-grandchildren."
