Rangers are mourning the loss of a club legend Jimmy Millar, who has died aged 86.
Millar made his name after signing from Dunfermline Athletic and he won 11 major honours during 12 years as well as picking up a runners-up medal in the 1961 European Cup Winners’ Cup after defeat to Fiorentina in the final. His family revealed in 2017 that he had been living with dementia for a decade which they believe was linked to him heading the ball during his playing career.
Born in Edinburgh, Millar was signed by Scot Symon for £5000 from the Pars in 1955 and went on to score 162 goals in all competitions. He formed a famous strike partnership with best pal Ralph Brand which is one of the most celebrated in Scottish football history. They duo were nicknamed the “M and B” partnership after the Bryant and May match brand that was popular with smokers. Millar scored 13 Old Firm goals, including two New Year’s Day derby-winning goals at Parkhead in 1960 and 1964.
