Jim Goodwin says he's spoken with Christian Ramirez after the American striker vented his frustrations on social media, and has since deleted his accounts.
The American striker was yet again left out of the Aberdeen squad for today's 1-1 draw at Ross County. The Dons led with five minutes to go after a Luis 'Duk' Lopes strike, but suffered last-gasp heartbreak when Willam Akio drew the Staggies level deep into stoppage time.
Ramirez was linked with a transfer deadline day move to Hearts, but the Jambos instead brought in Wigan striker Stephen Humphrys on loan. He's behind Bojan Miovski and Lopes in the pecking order at Pittodrie and took to Twitter to share his feelings at the current situation on Thursday. He tweeted: "Make it make sense please. There are two sides to every story. That’s all for now." The post was deleted soon after but no move materialised for the former Houston Dynamo frontman.
Goodwin admitted on Friday that Ramirez has been left out because his goal return in red hasn't been up to scratch. With the window now closed until January, the 31-year-old now has no choice but to try and force his way into Goodwin's plans if he wants to play football between now and then.
The Aberdeen boss admitted Ramirez's post wasn't helpful, but that he had apologised and deleted all of the social media accounts. He told BBC Scotland: "There's not a great deal to say. Yes, there is an internal process.
"We're disappointed with what went on social media. We felt it was unnecessary and Christian has apologised for his part in that.
"I'm led to believe he's deleted all of his social media platforms, which is what I believe every footballer out there should do; stay off of these things and just focus on what's important, which is playing football.
"So there's no big drama. At the moment, Bojan Miovski's played well, Duk has been incredible and there's a couple of players ahead of Christian at the moment.
"But if Christian knuckles down and works hard, then we know what a quality striker we've got. Windows are open in Europe until the 5th or 6th of September so we'll wait and see what happens.
"At the end of the day, Christian wants to play regularly. He's used to doing that through his career and is at an age now where he's got a wife and kids and people depending on him. He's in the last year of his contract.
"We've all been there as ex-players and know the pressure that are involved in it. I've said the same thing to Christian that I;ve said to all the players who aren't in the starting XI: Work hard, knuckle down in training and be ready if and when that opportunity comes."
